I was told by no less an expert that Dr. Bruce Williams that Carafate
(sucrafate) should be given 1/2 hour before or 1 hour after meals and other
medication.  It can interfer with the absorption of nutrients and other
meds, and if the stomach is full, the food will interfere with the
Carafate's effectiveness.
 
He also told me that since it works through a physical rather than a
chemical interaction, the dosing need not be very exact.  He told me
about 50 mg/kg 3 times a day.
