FELLOW FML-ers UNITE !!!
For those of you who know me (or have read my previous posts), my name is
Erin, and I am a Small Companion Animal specialist at a PetCo in Las Vegas.

During an SCA meeting last week I've learned of new and exciting new
things that will begin taking place soon in our stores (i.e., toys for the
animals, better food, stricter policies and procedures regarding the over
all care of the animals,etc...).

But one change disturbs me......
I currently have the ferret babies on Carefresh bedding and Yesterday's
News in their litter pans (as all of the babies in my care begin "potty"
training from day 1).

The change that Corp. means to make in the near future is to use
Yesterday's News as the bedding (imagine the ferts trying to lounge on a
bed of pellets), and Petgold kitty litter (the clumping kind no less) in
their litter pans!!! :o

Although I deal with ferret owners who still use kitty litter everyday, I
thought that the overwhelming concessus was that kitty litter is a
potential danger to ferrets.

I brought this up to the head honcho at the meeting, and if enough FACTS
are gathered, he will change things. He listened to my opinion on the
matter, but to him, that's all it is, opinion.

I need FACTS people!!! (before the changes are actually put into effect)
I'm appealing to all the vets on this list, as well as any other vets
interested in helping, and all the shelter operators out there and anyone
who has dealt with the problem of using a kitty litter, on a personal
basis.

Please e mail me directly (as I will be printing out all info as well as
forwarding it to corporate). Vet recommendations and articles will be most
helpful, as well as any surgical findings or pictures of these blockage
surgeries.

However, if most on this list still believe that kitty litter is okay, then
I will not try to pursue the matter and will let Corp. go ahead with it's
changes without a fight from me.

I would welcome and appreciate information on this matter.

Doing it for the ferrets!
Thanks in advance,
Erin and The Kids (Ayla,Kato,Rikki,Cocoa,Cinder and Tsunami)
