Jessica,

Good question! My ferrets use newspaper instead of litter, and we too put
it in the trash. I wrote to the list with the same question a couple of
years ago... I was told in no uncertain terms that we shouldnt use
composted carnivore waste on food plants.

I decided to try to compost our newspapers anyhow, thinking i could use it
on shrubberies or flower gardens. What a disaster. The newspaper didn't
go anywhere, and we ended up hauling the whole soggy mess to the dump. I
know shredded newspaper composts well, but after being used as a ferret
bathrm it is not in good shape to shred!

I'm guessing that ferret poo in clay or newspaper litter might compost
better, if mixed with other yard waste or whatever, with the caution NOT
to use it on food plants, as it could carry parasites, bacteria etc even
after composting.

Anhow, i'm looking forward to seeing what responses you get on the list!
It seems so stupid to landfill organic material....
