We've found that the Rubbermaid plastic dishpans make fabulous litter boxes,
come in several colors, and cost just a few dollars - much less than most.
They are smaller than cat boxes yet have high sides that will contain high
aim. My guys are healthy adults and have no problems getting in and out of
them, but I think one side could easily be cut down.

We use what I think is a variation on someone elses drippy water bottle
solution which I believe was to attach a small plastic bowl to the cage
underneath the bottle. We cut just the large screw neck top off of a clay
litter jug (we used to use clay) and hot glued it to the vinyl flooring
underneath the bottle. We then glued two of the caps from said jugs flat
top to flat top and then screwed one side down onto the neck. Easily
removeable for cleaning, and it acts as a small water bowl underneath the
bottle. Our guys sometimes managed to pull it up, but it was easy to reglue
it and we subsequently twist tied it down which stopped them from pulling it
up. Have not had problems with them chewing on the plastic (or the glue
when they pulled it up), although occasionally they manage to unscrew it.

As you can tell from this and our other post, our guys live better than we
do - in their own "designer color-coordinated condo" no less. We seem to
expend more thought and energy on their living arrangements than we do ours.
sigh.
