Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had every heard of the drug Percorten-V. It is
supposedly a synthetically produced cortocoid that is helpful in dogs with
Addison's Disease (this is the opposite of Cushing's disease, which is
similar, but not identical to adrenal disease in ferrets). This product
is made by Novaris Pharmaceuticals and it's chemical name is
desoxycorticostromen pivalate. It comes as an injectable suspension of
25 mg/cc. This is supposedly the "newest" thing in medicine for Addison's
Disease. Our vet has used it succesfully on dogs to stop the shut-down of
the body associated with this disease. He has never tried it on ferret,
but doesn't see why is wouldn't work. Also, it isn't supposed to have any
of the "bad" side effects of prolonged Prednisolone/Prednisone exposure.
Any information anyone has would be appreciated. Hopefully, this will
become a new drug to help those unfortunate bi-lateral adrenal removals
that are sometimes necessary in ferret. We posted this because we recently
had a ferret (Theo) undergo surgery for bilateral adrenal removal, and the
vet mentioned this new drug. Thanks in advance for any help, and again,
unless you think it would be good for everyone on the list to hear, please
respond to us personally!! Thanks
