To All:

It still makes me cry when I have to use the word "memorial" when
speaking of our beloved little ferret Blizzard. Blizzard was an
absolutely magical little man who brought both tranquility and peace
in an otherwise "challenging" world. Everywhere we went with him, and
we took him everywhere, people loved him, wanted to pet him, have their
photo taken with him, etc. From hiking in the mountains from Virginia
to New Hampshire to snowshoeing to riding a wave in the Outer Banks of
North Carolina to just taking long walks on its beaches he was "the
man" everyone wanted to be around and be seen with!

What meant the most to my wife and I however, was that every morning
he would signal to us to bring him up onto our bed for approximately
20 minutes of massage before we would carry him down to the kitchen
where he would be hand-fed his breakfast.

His grave with a hi-beam solar light illuminating his tombstone all
surrounded by blue butterfly bushes is in our backyard. We think of
him daily and still have challenges dealing with his death.

Today, 8/7, is the 2 year anniversary of us helping him to The Bridge.
Since then we have established The Blizzard Memorial Fund, administered
by SOS (Support Our Shelters) charged with directly helping ferts
around the country who are not having as good a life as our beloved
Blizzard did for his 5 1/2 years.

Since its inception Christmas Eve 2008 over $6800 (yes 68 hundred
dollars!!) has been received into this 1 1/2 year old fund with many
generous personal donations from people around the country plus the SOS
Spring Raffle and other smaller raffles. In support of its mission,
monies have gone directly to ferrets through their respective shelters
in Colorado, Nevada, Georgia, New York, Virginia, and just recently to
Arkansas.

Below is an example of how Blizzard is helping today and the story of
this poor Arkansas baby as told by his shelter mom. This little one was
dumped out in a heat-wave. This is his story...

The other day we got this little 8 month old silver blaze ferret. He
is deaf, and very shinny as well his skin hangs off his body. You can
count every bone he has, dehydrated, flea infested, hosting ear mites,
long nails, and the worst part is he was left outside in a bare cage
without water or food and we are in a heat wave and have been for days

The vets and I have been working with this poor baby boy every few
hours of forced feedings. When we gave him his bath the night he came
in, all I could do was cry. As you know, 8 month old ferrets don't sit
still for a minute but this baby, he just laid there in that nice cool
water and you can just see the fleas hoping around off him. His little
body was beat red, sunburned, even his paws were burned from urine
burns. This baby had 24 hours around the clock care since he walked in
the doors. He was so weak the shelter felt he wasn't going to make it.

Now for some good news. It is now reported that this baby boy has
started dooking again and has tried to eat the feet of his human foster
parents! Plus Animal Control has been contacted so they may find the
responsible party who did this in the first place.

The Blizzard Memorial Fund is now assisting with this baby boys vet
bills as he needs long term care because of his skin. The shelter has
to take him in every couple days for water blisters from being so
sunburned.

Help Blizzard help others by making your donation to The Blizzard
Memorial Fund.

We thank you, the ferrets you will be helping thank you, and if
Blizzard is still waiting for us at The Rainbow Bridge, we are very
positive that he would thank you as well by kissing you on your nose!
