Hi Everyone,
Unusual for me to post twice in one day, can you tell I'm on holiday.
There was something I've been wanting to do for some time but managed to
get to it today.

Like many of you, I received the shelter list in June, 2000. What I saw
made me both sad and angry. I told myself one day I would sit down and
calculate the numbers I was reading out of curiosity, as I couldn't fathom
the numbers I was seeing. Well, here it is. I tried to be as accurate as
possible and only used these three categories and these two countries:

In the U.S.: FERRETS IN SHELTERS - 2461
             FERRETS FOR ADOPTION - 1172
             PERMANENT SHELTER FERRETS - 960
In Canada: FERRETS IN SHELTERS - 132
             FERRETS FOR ADOPTION - 79
             PERMANENT SHELTER FERRETS - 27
Combined: 2593 SHELTER FERRETS
          1251 FERRETS FOR ADOPTION
           987 PERMANENT SHELTER FERRETS

In doing this I'm trying to also make a point. There are so many ferrets
needing homes that if everyone adopted these ferrets first, maybe the pet
stores wouldn't order as many in (or maybe none at all) if they couldn't
sell them. I know how adorable kits are, but these numbers are appalling.
