(Continued from "Buddy's story: part 2")

As Jeffery huddled back in the far corner of his cage, he stared at the
cats. After the shock started wearing off he remembered something that
Opus has told him. It was, "We are often scared of things that we don't
understand. Once you understand the object of your fear, you will find
your fear will disappear." Hmm, those are wise words but how are they going
to help me work through this situation? I guess the first step is to try
to understand these creatures. So understand them I will, but like them I
will not!

Thus having made up his mind, he decided that he would watch them and learn
their weaknesses and then he would use them against the cats. Jeffery
smiled to himself. He would start his attack against the CIA with these
four cats before him. Jeffery decided that he would approach the front of
the cage and see, first hand, what these cats were like. As he approached
them, three of the cats started hissing and then they spit at him! Oh,
gross! Hissing he could kind of understand but the spitting, what truly
disgusting creatures these cats are. He decided right then and there that
it will be very enjoyable to punish these cats. Now he just needed to
figure out the most effective way of doing it.

Jeffery laid back down on his blanket and watched these creatures.
Eventually they walked off and left him to himself. It was then that he
felt his tummy rumble and he decided to try eating some of the strange stuff
in his food dish. He was rather disappointed with the food. It was bland
and tasted stale. He decided that if he was going to get anything decent
that he was going to have to figure out a way to get it himself.

Over the next few days the lady, that took him away from the other ferrets,
basically ignored him. She came over and refilled his water and food bowl
when they were empty. She finally changed his little box on the third day.
He was glad because it was really starting to smell and there was no clean
place left in the whole box. It was frustrating because while he was
ignored she couldn't stop fussing over the stupid cats. She let them sit
in her lap and she was always giving them treats.

As he watched the cats he noticed something that he thought was strange.
It appeared as though the same cat was always the last to get treats, the
last to eat, and also the last one to get petted by the lady. He wondered
if maybe he could use this to his advantage.

One evening while the lady was playing with the cats, Jeffery noticed the
cat that was usually left out laying over in the corner by himself. Jeffery
had been thinking about the lesson that Opus had given him about ESP.
Jeffery didn't really believe in it but he liked to listen to Opus so he
paid attention anyway. He wondered if it really worked. Jeffery decided
that it was time to find out. He prepared himself in accordance to what
Opus had taught him. He laid down and stared at the cat. He then yelled
(in him mind) "Hey cat!" At that very second the cat jumped up and stared
right at Jeffery! Jeffery was so shocked he froze. He didn't know what to
do. He just sat there for a minute and then the cat finally looked away,
shook it's head, and laid back down. Jeffery was amazed. He eventually
came to the conclusion that it was just luck that the cat looked at him just
as he yelled. He decided to try it one more time. If it happened twice
in a row then he might believe it. So once again he prepared himself and
yelled, "Hey cat!". Once again the cat jumped up and looked straight at
him. Hmm, Jeffery thought, this may have possibilities.
