Re: Seth Morabito's question on descenting.
 
I personally don't see it as being at all necessary to descent.  My two
girls are not descented, though of course they are spayed.  Descenting
can lead to  muscular trouble around the rectum, and is really unnecessary
surgery.  They have only occasionally sprayed, and it wasn't bad at
all.  Descenting  will also not remove the ferret smell, as the anal glands
removed are not the cause of it.  There are many other scent glands on
ferrets that really cannot be removed, and contribute far more to the smell
than the anal glands that are used primarily for territorial marking.
