I've had my Weezl Watcher gate for over two years now, so I can't speak
to the problems people may have experienced with delivery. However, I
will say that after using this gate successfully on hard floors, I never
could use it on carpet. The little "carpet-sharks" could always find a
way to use the soft carpet to pop the gate out of the doorway. As I
said, it worked great on hard floors UNTIL last week, when my Cocoa, the
jumping genius, figured out that if he jumped straight up in the air he
could grab the top of the gate and pull himself over. Once he had done
it a few times, the rest of my crazy six were swarming at the gate trying
to figure out how to do the same thing. So much for the Weezl Watcher
gate!

I did once create basically the same thing by buying a sheet of
custom-cut plexiglass in the same size. I'll probably do the same thing
in a taller version to replace the Weezl Watcher gate. You want to get
a thin Plexiglass, like 3/16" or 1/8" inch, as I found the 1/4" was too
thick to bend properly. This gate worked for some time but eventually
cracked when someone stepped on it, as the Plexiglass is more fragile
than the polymer that the Weezl Watcher was made from. However, it was
also about half the price. Check around for prices at glass stores; the
price varies enormously from place to place. Also, one place said it
would take two weeks to get, the other place had it ready in an hour.
Be sure to get some foam insulation to tape onto the top for protection.
I once dropped one of mine on top of the Weezl Watcher which has foam
padding at the top; he was fine, but I really worried about him, and
subsequently put foam on top of my homemade version with wide vinyl tape.
Worked great for quite a while.

Anybody out there have other ideas for homemade gates?
