Hi everyone!! I had a very busy day today... thought I would share some
of it!!

... We had a doctors appointment today... (dont worry bout us nottin was
wrong) Kaylee (our semi-reformed biter...) needed her shots... Distemper
and Rabies and a physical... and our old lady Hepa needed a check up... I
was worried cuz it looked like she had an icky bruise on her tummy, turns
out it was just her spleen showing through her skin... ewwwwwww! But both
got a thumbs up, and Hepa is going back for the blood work in 3 weeks....

... from the vets we were off to the local shelter, the PFRA of Centre
County,... I was on my way to pick up a ferret to foster... Hehee...
RIGHT!! "A" ferret to foster... (last time I was at Marys' Shelter I left
with THREE)... First we meet these two sweetie pies, unfortunately they
dint really get on to well with my Hepa ... no dice on them... then Mary
heads back to the Ferret Room, the room with all the ferrets in it... I
immediately see this little sweetie pie... Gracie, I bet she only weighs
a pound and a half... she is a Dark Chocolate Hooded sable... tiny little
thing... I immediately fell for her... at this point I dint know she was
one of the monkeys that was looking for foster a foster home... You would
never know it (unless you look at her teeth) but she is 7 years old... a
little bundle of energy though, like a kit without the nipping and with
LOTS more cuddling... I was also re-introduced to two ferrets that I had
met previously at the ferret-frolic here in State College... Chip and
Dale... who are BOTH complete sweethearts... Im still learning the
difference between CHIP and DALE ... ONE Of them has a BIG lump on the
top of his head... like a character building birth defect (but HES NOT
defective!!!)... The lump doesnt bother him at all, Mary has had it checked
by the vet and its JUST A LUMP... Gracie decided as soon as I came in with
my dinner that she wanted to explore my bowl... so she JUMPED and I mean...
JUMPED from my couch to the coffee table where my soup bowl was (warm not
HOT soup) I tend to think its better to let them explore than to try to
discourage it... as most of you could, Im sure attest to, trying to stop a
ferret from checkin out the world is like trying to move a mountain... so,
I let her stick her little nose by the soup and she looked up at me... it
was potato soup, she took a little lick and then bounced a little bit on
the table bumping into my pepsi which spilled on the table... ACK... she,
like almost every other ferret I have ever met LOVES pepsi... I picked her
up so she couldnt drink any more as soon as I got a towel and she squirmed
and squirmed to get back to her lovely liquid treat... PEPSI... She seems
to recognize the cans too... is this normal?? What a cutie pie!! Im
already glad she and chip and dale are here!! they all have free roam in
the living room... and they have all seemed to pick sleepy spots (though my
hepa still sleeps in wierd places)... Hepa has, in the last 2 days decided
she likes to sleep in the superpets ball that the tubing attatches to...
she has made it very clear that folks cannot play there while she is
sleeping. so... does everyone concur with the math?? 1+1 = 10???

Also, while I was at Marys today, I got to learn more stuff ( I love
talking to mary and seeing her ferrets and shelter babies, I always learn
stuff!!)... she picked up a ferret from the vet today that had Adrenal
surgery... poojan... what a cutie pie... One of the guys that I got today
has had surgery and I was curious about where they operated cuz I dint see
any scar or anthing on him so Mary, gently pulled Poojan out of her carrier
and showed me...so now I know... she looked really uncomfortable but the
stitches were clean and right down the middle of her belly, I am sure she
was groggy from the surgery but she seemed to just wanna curl up and go
back to sleep. I dont want to EVER have to have surgery on any of my kids
but (KNOWS THE ODDS!!!)I think I will be more equipt to handle the stress
of it with all the information I take in... EDUCATE EDUCATE EDUCATE!!

Hehe... I just love havin these new guys here!! I let some of my other
monkeys out for a few... Kaylee gets along with all of them, I think Stuey
is jealous, Bella is REALLY curious and Yoshi just wants to play with
everyone! I am not going to even try to let my bullies out with the old
folks... the old folks will have to spend a few hours a week in their cage
so that everyone can get play time!!

One more question... in the 2000 Annual issue of Ferrets USA there is a
picture of a shelter with some cages made of PVC pipes with wire covering
them... I dont know why but i really LIKE these cages.... I would like to
build one for the old guys to hang out in while Pugsley and Dharma get
their play time but would like to know if there is PLANS for this cage...I
am interested in the largest one on the bottom in the photo... if you made
this cage or know who did could you please drop me a line... thanks sooo
much!!

have a dooky day! I know I will!!
-Betty
