Welcome Loel and family (which includes Sangpo and Dolma of course!)
I was very pleased and impressed with the amount of thought and
consideration you put into purchasing your ferrets. It sounds like you
are taking wonderful care of your new babies.
In regards to your question about ferret/ferret play, I have had
the same unsettling experience with my two ferrets. I have two male
ferrets and when I first brought them home from the pet store they
would sometimes engage in the most rough and tumble play, I thought
they were fighting. They would grab each other around the neck and
twist and shake as you have already stated. When one would start
whimpering too loud for me to stand it, I would separate them.
They seemed to "play" like this ever so often and one of the ferrets
would get tired of it and run away but they never went as far to draw
blood or actually hurt one another. As they got older (they are both
one and one half years old) they seldom play rough anymore. They are
much more affectionate with each other. They lick each others noses
and groom each other constantly. So I think they are just ferret
playing and establishing a sort of ferret dominance with each other.
What we humans think of terribly rough playing and hurting could
be just ferret fun to them. Sometimes we have to think like ferrets
not humans and thats hard to do!
Anyway it sounds like you are providing them with one of the
important things a ferret needs and that is love. Along with a good
quality dry kitten food, a good vet to provide their neccessary
vaccinations and some special treats, Sangpo and Dolma got it made!
