Here is a question for vets and other expert ferret people. I have decided
to get another baby for Yancy and Panda, and the PetVet store where I bought
Yancy (a MF ferret) has a new shipment of 10 babies coming in tomorrow. I
am planning on going down the 80 miles to Albuquerque on Friday to get a new
baby, BUT: when I asked how old the babies are, they said FIVE WEEKS! That
just can't be! I assume the little girl at the store just got the age wrong
- they can't wean, neuter, de-scent and ship tiny babies that young, can
they? And Marshall Farms is, according to my vet, one of the most reputable
ferret farms going! My co-worker in Ferret-Rescue down in Albuquerque is
going to go check out the babies as soon as they arrive, to see if they
really are that young. I hope they aren't; but if they are, is there
anything that can be done to stop the shipment of under age babies? And
dare I bring one home? I'm quite torn: part of me wants to race down there
and rescue all those tiny babies; the other half does NOT want to encourage
any pet shop to by under age little ones. I'd welcome comments, and I'll
let everyone know what we find out about these tiny travelers.
