Yes, MF will make good on deaf ferrets, especially if it could not be sold.
In the best of cirmumstances, if a deaf ferret is at a pet shop, the shop
can "turn it over to a shelter" for free, and MF will credit the pet shop
with another kit. This way, it does not cost the shelter anything to
receive, properly train and be selective in rehomeing, the ferret.

In James case, you'll probably receive some store credit for supplies. MF
is VERY willing to work with ferret shelters. They have a recent list of
shelters from STAR* Ferrets, and know to look at Ferret Central. They
would rather see the "defective" kits placed locally than euthanized, and
since they are sterile, the trait will not go further. But if MF does not
know how many deaf ferrets are coming out of their breeding farm, they
can't make corrections at the farm. So whether you keep the ferret and
don't want anything in return, you should still let them know about
"defective" ferrets.
