First I would like to say that in reading the recent digest I had tears
streaming down my face at the words of loss from some list members. I am
deeply sorry for your losses of animals that became parts of your families
and lives. I was especially saddened by the story of the rescued "Easter
Bunny" Princess. I have two boys (3 and 6 years old) and would never
think of giving them the responsibility that comes with any kind of life.
Someone should have a talk with those children's parents before she
purchases another pet. The death of any living being is something to be
mourned.

Yesterday I became the owner of an 8 week old ferret who my sons have
named Hopper. By the way, I think this is a GREAT name. I applaud their
creativity. Before I had my boys I had 2 other ferrets who are now waiting
for me at the rainbow bridge. Now comes my question. My two other fuzzies
rarely made much noise except when they were very excited. Hopper is a
very vocal little guy who almost sounds like a newborn baby. He has been
whining a lot and hasn't been sleeping very much unless he is close to
me physically. Tonight I had to put him in his cage and listen to him
(heartbreaking) until he finally went to sleep.

I am wondering if this is a sign that he isn't well or if he is maybe
missing the other fuzzies he was with. I want him to be happy here and
his "cries" are worrying me. Otherwise, he has been playful and normal.
Well, as normal as ferrets get. : )

If anyone else has experienced this behavior we would greatly benefit from
your knowledge.
