Hi Cynthia--
I've been pretty happy with Dr. Walker at VCA Rotherwood Animal Hospital in
Newton-- there are buses that go out that way, although depending on where
you are in the Boston area, that could be quite a trek too.  Although, it
would be a lot easier to find someone with a car willing to drive you to
Newton than to Worcester!  Dr. Walker has a long history of experience with
ferrets-- he was treating them before they were legalized, out of an
ethical conviction that it was the right thing to do.  I find his manner of
handling the ferrets a little brusque, but that's just a matter of style.
I have a lot of respect for his medical knowledge, and he has a genuine
affection for ferrets-- worth its weight in gold in a vet!
 
I'll take a moment to plug a former vet, too-- if you're in the Montreal
area, I was very, very happy with the vets at the Montreal Bird and Exotic
Animal Hospital out on Sherbrooke St. West (6090 is the address, I think).
They are all nice people, most of whom really like ferrets, and they were
very emotionally supportive when Amelia had her life-threatening blockage
experience (they even let me sit all day long with her in the staff
lounge).  They also board ferrets-- the cages aren't that big, and run-time
is limited, but at least you know that you're leaving your ferret with
people who know how to look after it.
