Well, I took Nikki to the vet today because she was still very lethargic.
They did an x-ray and found a tumor. The vet doesn't think it is her
spleen, because it's located lower than she thinks it would be. She's only
a year and a half old. We feel absolutely terrible. She's been gaining
weight alot, but we thought that was a good thing because she was soooo
skinny this spring. Of course they want to do surgery right away. We left
her at the vet's tonight, but I wish she was home.

My husband and I are pretty worried about her having surgery. The vet that
would be doing it is someone we really don't want working on her. (This is
the vet who a month or so ago tried to tell me ferrets were wild animals.)
We're concerned they won't do everything possible to save her. Our pets are
like most people's children. We spoil them rotten. And we will spare no
expense to save them.

Does anyone know of an experienced ferret vet in the Illinois area? Even
Missouri or Iowa would be ok. I've called and left a message with the
emergency answerng service to leave the message that we do NOT want them to
procede with the surgery until we can talk to our normal vet. She will be
in the office tomorrow, but she is scheduled for appointments all day, and
the surgeries will be done by this other guy. I just want to make sure she
gets the best care possible. The lady at the office tonight who showed us
the x-ray even said we could put her to sleep instead of going through with
the surgery. She's only a year and a half old! I think we owe it to her to
try to give her as long a life as possible.

I'm sorry I've rambled. I just feel so sad. Like she's gone already. And
I know it's not right to think that. I've heard stories from people on here
about miraculous recoveries. It's not that I have any doubt she could
recover. I just don't have complete faith in our vet. Anyone who has any
info on vets, or just general advice please e-mail me. I don't want to drag
this on searching for the perfect vet, I just want to make sure we do
everything possible for her.

Thanks,
Serra Cane
