Hello, Good People

The Ferret Friends Disaster Response International Site has been updated to
include the latest information regarding the Los Alamos fires and FFDRI's
response to them. To see the full report and additional details, go to

***What is the disaster?***
Per the Weather Channel, a fire began Thursday near Pajarito Mountain in
Bandelier National Monument, west of Los Alamos, New Mexico. As of the
present time, 36,000+ acres have burned, and Los Alamos and White Rock
have been evacuated. Authorities are calling for voluntary evacuation in
Espanola. Two hundred sixty Los Alamos homes have burned, and a national
research facility was also damaged. Fortunately no injuries are reported.

***What's going on right now?***
PF Ferret Shelter in Santa Fe, NM has received sixteen ferrets, six of whom
have been fostered out.

Paula Federici, who runs the PF Ferret shelter, has reported that they will
be going to the HSUS & AHA shelters this weekend to pick up any ferrets
there. She has also reported that they expect an influx of ferrets once
people return to their homes and find the homes destroyed and unlivable.
Fires are now in four different areas but are expected to be under control
sometime today (let's all pray for that). As more ferrets arrive they will
be shifted as needed to other ferret shelters and foster homes.
