In the spirit of the holiday season, I'd like to ask you FML-ers to post
your favorite ferret moment. I know we all have favorites (it's probably
hard to choose your *most* favorite fert moment), and it always makes me
smile when I hear the wonderful stories of everyone's kids. Most of us
can't give gifts to each other, and I think this would be just the thing.
I know it would brighten my day.

Here's mine:

A couple of months ago I had the privlege of spending a few hours in my
local pet shop. I can't have ferrets right now, and there are no shelters
nearby, so this was a real treat. This store had four little fert babies
(MF): two sables, an albino, and one who must have had a bit of everything
in her: she had the stripes of a sable, little white mitts on 2 feet and a
white tail tip, little "smudges" under her eyes. Very cute. I played with
all of them for a few minutes, then took the sleepy little mutt furkid out.
I held her like you hold a human baby, and talked to her a little, and she
fell asleep with me holding her! This blew my mind. Most furkids aren't
that trusting, and I was a complete stranger. I also had doggie smell on
my hands. The other three had tried to bite me, like most of the other
babies in the pet shops around here. This one didn't even wiggle. I spent
about an hour checking out the ferret stuff and oohing at this little
sleeping furchild. I spent another 30 min playing with her. We stopped at
the toy section and played "chase the ball" and "squeek the toy" until one
of the pet store folks told me I had to keep her with the other little
ferts. She was so happy for the attention and the out-of-cage play time--
you could tell. I got ferret kisses from her (my first!). I was in tears
when I had to leave her... but that was certainly my best ferret moment.

For Quigley (after the curious FBI agent from "Ashes"), my ferret child in
spirit, if only for a few hours. Happy holidays, sweetie, and sorry for
being all sappy for you.

(Yes, it's a little early, but when has time stopped a determined ferret?)
