Hi Folks

I can't believe where the time has gone. It has been 10 days since I last
posted and I had promised everyone an update. I guess I've been so busy
medicating and hand feeding 2 sick ferrets, the time just raced away
without me knowing it.

Smokey did not have an ulcer, but a bowel infection. The vet feels that
his bowel was severely irritated from the stress he was experiencing. She
felt the infection was not contagious, and no one else has caught it. Not
even Bandit, who is his cage mate. Smokey was put on an antibiotc and was
fed duck soup every 3 to 4 hrs. His stools are now normal and he has
gained 9 oz. He is eating well on his own, but I am still supplimenting
with duck soup 3 times a day. I look at his little body and feel he has a
little more "filling in" to do.

Bandit too has gained some weight. He is now 2 lbs 14 oz. Bandit and
Smokey both seem to be settling in just fine. I haven't tried to put them
in with the rest of the gang yet. I want to make their little lives are as
stress free as possible, until I know they are both happy and healthy. The
woman who gave them to me phoned and asked if she could see them "one last
time". When she came over, she raved about how good they looked and even
thought their fur looked and felt better. She picked Bandit up and hugged
him and kissed him, then handed him back to me. While she did the same to
Smokey, Bandit kissed me all over and would not stop kissing me. I thought
this was strange because that was the first time he had ever kissed me.
What's even stranger is...he hasn't kissed me since! I like to think it
was his way of asking me to keep them here with me and not send them back
with that woman and her awful lonely basement. (evil grin) Don't worry my
boys......you are here to stay!

Mitzy had a barium xray done and she has ulcers! Several tiny spots showed
up on the xray, so she is now taking metronizole x2 daily, pepto bismol x2
daily and amoxicillin x2 daily. What a chore it is getting the meds into
her! For such a little girl, she is certainly strong! I guess she gave
the vet a run for her money! The vet told me that Mitzy didn't like having
to be held down for the xrays. Three adults were trying to hold her in
position and place lead protectors on their hands. Mitzy got one of her
paws free and reached behind her and flung one of the lead pads across the
room and bounced it off of the wall!!I guess the vet, her tech and the
co-op student were in stitches, they laughed so hard. They had a hard time
believing she was just a 2 lb. ferret. I would have liked to see that.
After I heard that story I told the good Dr. that we lovingly call her
Mitzy the Monster for a very good reason LOL Mitzy is still not eating on
her own and is still getting duck soup every 3-4 hrs. She is drinking well
and does take the soup willingly. She is still having loose seedy stools,
however today she did have ONE normal poop.

Well, it's time to medicate and feed again, so I'm going into Dr. Mom mode.
I hope and pray that all fuzzies out there are happy and healthy, as well
as the people who are owned by them!
