Hi,

I just need to know if there's anything else I should be doing.

History: Oscar is older ferret; came to me in May this year from local
animal shelter. At his checkup he was found to have a large tumor and it
was removed along with a kidney. Fine after that. Had one stress incident
with other ferrets where he stopped eating and spent weekend at vet's; fine
after that. Then seizures started a few months ago. Sugar low. On pred.
Went to vet a few weeks ago for x-rays; everything is normal. Vet said
it's not insulinoma. Due to Oscar being old, I didn't think long term use
of pred would hurt him at this point, so I asked to let him stay on pred
from now on since there's nothing else that can be done and it seems to
help cut back on the seizure episodes.

So, my problem is when he's having these seizures, should I continue to
just give the karo syrup and hold him? And when he appears comatose, which
he does on occasion, what should I do???? I just hold him for now because
he doesn't respond to anything. He is eating, drinking, and poopin fine.
Some nights when I go to bed I believe he'll be gone in the mng, then he's
up the next mng and playing and running and acting so healthy. But it's
during the seizures (pawing at the mouth and gagging sounds) and the
comatose episodes that I don't know if there's something else I should be
doing. Since he has not been diagnosed with any disease or anything, I
haven't been able to find any real info on the internet for this situation.

He doesn't appear to be in pain; no screaming or puking or anything like
that.

Any advice would be appreciated. My vet is very good and very
ferret-knowledgeable; he's recommended by our club.

Thanks!

Susan
