I found your report on the pet industry show very interesting, especially
the differences between the PV and MF reps and how their ferrets were cared
for.
 
But what peeked my interest the most was:
>The other PV ferret has what our vet thinks is a congenital defect with

My Buttons, a 2-year old from a reputable breeder, can only open his mouth
about that much.  I was once told it was related to the Waardensburg
syndrome.  Buttons has a blaze and is deaf, but I've not seen this in any
other deaf ferrets.
 
Buttons does not have any difficulties eating as a result of the jaw
problem, and it doesn't seem to bother him.  The only problem is that he
has a tendency to pinch our skin with little nips when he is playing!
