The ferret is a member of the weasel family not the cat family. It would
be better to compare the ferret paw to the dog paw than to the cat paw in
that dog and ferret claws are non-retractable.
But your advice about not declawing a ferret is absolutely correct other
than that little bit.

Your vet seems quite on the ball actually. You all might get lucky and the
other testicle might descend after all. It happens. There is a point
where the chambers seal normally with the testicle in the sac. Sometimes
before it gets there. This is not limitted to ferrets so don't worry about
the vet.
