Reet
Did you see the pictures of the stuffed ferret before it was removed from
ebay? If a taxidermist stuffed my beloved Bessie that way I would have
demanded my money back. A good taxidermist would not pose a pet in the
attitude of a wild animal. Bessie's mouth was not open in play, as we have
all seen in our ferrets, its lips were curled back from an open mouth in an
aggressive stance.
I am not concerned that a member of the public would see this figure and
assume that ferrets must necessarily be a wild dangerous animal. I am
angry that anyone would take a domestic pet and pose it as a wild dangerous
animal.
You are correct in that we don't know the history of this item, but I doubt
it is as you suggest. After all, Aunt Gertrude's dearly departed kitty
Puff is sitting curled up sweetly in the settee, not posed with a dead
stuffed mouse dangling from her jaws.
