I found this this morning in *Dear Abby's Keepers*, and modified it for
ferret lovers. The original was by Edgar A Guest, entitled *GOD'S LOAN*
Liz Blackburn

"I'll send you for a little time
A fert of mine," he said.
"For you to have the while he lives,
and mourn for when he's dead.
"It may be six or seven years,
or maybe two or three,
But will you, till I call him back,
take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to make you smile,
and should his life be brief
You'll have sweet memories of him,
and solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there,
that I want you to learn.
I've looked this Heaven over,
In search for teachers true,
and from the many special ferts,
I think he's right for you.
Now will you give him all your love,
In sunshine and in rain,
Nor hate me when I come to call
and take him back again?
For all the joy this fert shall bring
the risk of grief we'll take,
and in our hearts there's always room
for one more bed to make.
But should the angels call for him,
much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand....
