I have a couple questions about my woozles that maybe someone can answer.
I have two wonderful woozles. Clara is a female sable colored ferret that
is nearing three. She hates being locked up in my room and when she gets
to go downstairs, she goes nuts! She never stops honking and dancing the
whole time but when I bring her back to the room she lays flat on the floor
and acts depressed! Otis is the odd ball! He is an albino male of two and
a half years. He is a biter! But only if your a male or if you stick your
arms under things that he considers his territory! But unlike clara, he
loves to be cuddled and will sit in your arms for hours!
So this is the question. A year ago Otis was completely bald on his tail
and lower back. I didn't really do anything about the hair loss for a yr.
but it kept falling out. I decided to take him to the vet. Long story
short, the vet abused more poor Otis. He decided to do an ultrasound on
him to check for adrenal. Otis wouldn't stay still and he kept scruffing
him harder and getting mad and yelling at him. When he finally found the
gland Otis moved, the vet threw down the equipment and said forget it! He
went to start again and I told him to stop! Poor Otis was terrified and
had peed everywhere. The vet says bluntly, Its adrenal and he is going to
die! I left the office in tears and Ottie was so scared and I felt so bad
for letting him abuse Otis! When I got home I looked at Otis and he was
horribly bruised with broken vessels from how hard the doctor scruffed him!
I never paid and the vet even sent me an apology letter. HA! My dream is
to be a vet and I could never hurt any animal like that!
So, if any one is still listening after that long story! That day I begin
giving Otis ferretone on a daily basis. He is now the biggest fluffball I
ever have seen. Also, when his hair was falling out he was skin and bones.
Now, he is a pig! He hangs his head in his food bowl all day! He has also
lost his playfulness and just walks around. Is this strange? Its like he
has completely changed? Could it still be adrenal? I don't see any signs?
Is it normal for ferrets to lose and gain weight during life? They mean
the world to me and I would hate for something to be going on inside their
little bodies and me not know?
Thanks for listening!
