Hello All:
One of my kids has been sick since yesterday...I was up every two
hours forcing Pedialyte (& trying duck soup) as she quit eating and
drinking and looked horrible. She developed a really nasty case of
diarrhea (greenish-mucous...exceptionally nasty looking) and started
vomiting last night. I took her weight (was down 4 oz. from her
normal weight) & I checked her mouth for any sores, but didn't find
anything.
We went to the vet today, Dr. Petrovich at the Clyde Park Veterinary
Clinic (she is a wonderful lady).
Anyway, she found a small 'ulcer' on her gums that I hadn't seen. She
asked to keep Sammi for a while and called me later to report that Sam
has Giardiasis. We got her about 2 months ago from a couple without
any other pets (they had her for about 9 months and her home before
that had cats - Sammi is a little over a year old to the best of our
knowledge). A few of my other ferts are now showing some signs
(starting to get a little funky poop) and am wondering if:
I should just go ahead and treat everyone?
Has anyone on the list dealt with Giardiasis or have any
experience/information that you could share with me?
Should I worry about spreading it outside my household? I have
volunteered my 'pooper-scooper' skills at a local shelter, but I am
worried about giving it to the shelter kids.
I have to pick up some meds for Sammi in the morning and Doc P. said
to give her a call if I felt that we should treat all of them for
this. She had given me a information sheet, but I didn't find the
information all that helpful. If anyone would like a copy of what I
have, it's very brief, but let me know, as I couldn't find much info
on the web about it.
Thanks in advance!
Bright Blessings,
Cyndi
