(Abuse case from Iredell County, NC update) - I have permission to fwd the
following.)

From Diane Campbell - The Ferret Guardian Rescue Haven, NC to me on 7/11/99:

Thank you for posting about the barn babies, who are now living with Mary.
She took them home Weds. and they are doing so well. Have had several
donations of cash come in, just at 200.00 which is just shy of meeting the
vet bills for them. Other donations of food, vitamins, ferretone and a
few hammocks came in yesterday. Three boxes of used clothing, etc. came
in the mail a few days ago. Last week, received some supplements, 5lb TF
and some toys. The generosity has been overwhelming. Without you posting,
it never would have happened. Thank you sooo very much!!!!

The little barn babies both weigh just over a pound, eating TF& Chicken
Gravy, ribs are still healing well, eye is about 2/3rds open though don't
know if sight is damaged yet, and they are no where near as frightened of
humans. When startled, their bite is still vicious, but let go in less
time. Next week, the boys who did this will be coming over to work at the
shelter, learn the ABC's of pet care and hopefully will realize what they
have done wrong. It will be closely monitored/ supervised so no other
ferrets get hurt. The mother can't pay for the vet, but is also willing to
help out in return. I feel this is better than prosecuting them by legal
means. Besides, the courts don't educate, they discipline and sometimes,
in these cases, it's just a slap on the hand."
