I've seen & heard of quite a few ferrets with tumors on their neck.
I don't know why, but that seems to be a common place to get them.
 
Keep an eye on it, it's not a panic situation, but if it is a tumor
(and not just swollen lymph nodes from their vaccinations), then you'll
have to take care of it before too long, or you risk it becoming
inoperable.  If it's still there in a week or two, call the vet again.
If he still disagrees that it's a tumor I strongly suggest you get
a second opinion.
