There was an episode on PBS British Comedy's "The Vicar of Dibley" tonight
(Sunday) in which Geraldine (the vicar) decided to have a church service
to bless the village animals. There was some controversy between her, the
village squire and the bishop about the wisdom of the idea, and she was
afraid no one would show up at her church and that she might even lose her
job. Instead, everyone came bringing hundreds of various kinds of animals.
Of course, we were watching closely for a glimpse of you-know-whats. Just
as Geraldine was saying a prayer for the animals before they entered the
church and spoke the line "bless these wonderful creatures," they showed
two beautiful champagne-colored ferrets on leashes! "The Vicar of Dibley"
is usually fairly "British-weird" but this particular segment had a lot of
wisdom about the love of humans for their pets.
