New Coat Without a Shed?

Well, Theo, the three-month-old panda-blaze, has turned almost black
overnight!  Suddenly, these long black hairs are starting to cover his
back, which was mostly a whitish tan color since I've had him.  Neither of
the kids (both three months) have shed, but they're getting this new coat
anyway.
 
I thought they only get new coats in the winter?
