I use white distilled vinegar to clean our carpets, most of the time.  It
works amazingly well.  I use 1/4 cup vinegar with each tank full of hot
water.  Vinegar has wonderful cleaning and disinfecting properties and is
completely non-toxic to the ferrets.  It will also clean out the old
cleaning solution residue in the carpet.
 
Once in awhile I'll use NOW.  This is a non-toxic cleaner I buy at Sams.
When I'm particularly concerned about virus's I add only 1 cap full of
Odo-ban to the cleaning solution.  Odo-ban is toxic but I've not seen any
adverse affects in my group.  I only use the Odo-ban occassionally, not
every time I clean with NOW and I don't use it at all with the vinegar.
