Non-specific (no naming names) controversies are ok, but once they become
specific to indidviduals they can become detremental to all.  Good healthy
controversaries spark identification and correction of common problems...
and that should be the ultimate goal.
 
Bashing should never be done publicly.  Handle them 1:1.  Remember,
public bashing puts the author at risk for civil suits for slander,
and potentially the even the forum for posting it.
