There are lots of people who can give you good information about ECE, but I
wanted to comment here. Recently, we had some bug come through my house.
The people caught and and so did the ferrets by 1's and 2's. It was awful.
Several caught it more than once. They never acted very sick at all,
though, and I'm sure it wasn't ECE (unless it's mutated into a very very
mild form). I went nuts, though, as this dragged on for almost 2 months.
Someone was projectile pooping out the side of the cage the whole time! I
had them to the vet, they had antibiotics, they were tested for parasites
and stuff like coccidia, but nothing.

What finally seemed to really help with my guys was when I started
bleaching the litterboxes. I suspect they had something you could catch
more than once (like coccidia) and it just didn't show up in the tests. I
only had to bleach for a couple weeks and no one got it again. Of course,
I was extra-fastidious with cleaning their cage and bedding, taking out
anything soiled as soon as I could.

I don't know if that's what you have at your house, but I thought I'd
mention it.
