Last week about this time, I posted to this list regarding the recent
loss of our Sweet Petey. Since then, I have been nearly overwhelmed by
your expressions of sympathy and support. I am diligently working my
way through those messages and will, eventually, respond to each one
individually (I apologize that it's taking me so long); for now, let me
just say thank you, you can't imagine how much you've helped.
This experience taught me something valuable. I am normally a very private
person, and it was unusual for me to lay open my heart in such a public
manner. Hearing from others who had endured a similar loss -- or who just
simply cared -- was incredibly comforting. I wept over every message but,
with your help, I have moved closer and closer to acceptance. I honestly
had no idea how healing this kind of exchange could be.
I have, on many occasions, extended expressions of sympathy to others who
have described such a loss and shared their attendant grief; I've always
wondered whether it really made a difference. Now I know that, without a
doubt, it does. That so many would take the time and trouble to reach out
and offer their support and compassion was both humbling and healing.
Ferret people are, indeed, the best -- bless you all.
