Hi everyone! Just thought I would reply to this thread since I have a dog
on Nizoral for Cushing's (adrenal type) right now. Nizoral is a brand name
of ketoconazole and is frequently used in dogs. It doesn't stop tumor
growth, but it does help slow the progression of the disease somewhat by
preventing bone/muscle loss, anemia, etc.. Not really sure which is the
case, but it works by either suppressing the hormone production of the
tumor or somehow masking it. Lysodren is much more effective and is used
more often now than the ketoconazole, but in our case, we aren't sure if
the dog can physically handle the Lysodren.

Anyway, when used on ferrets, ketoconazole is usually ineffective and it is
not recommended by most ferret knowledgable vets. Surgical removal of the
tumor is almost always the #1 treatment choice and if surgery is not an
option, then most vets go with Lysodren.

Hope this helps!
