Hi folks,

Wow, we've had our ferrets mistaken for many things, but dog is a new one.
Our second ferret we found via a cardboard-poster ad, with the logical enough
spelling error (for someone unfamiliar w/ species) "FER-RAT for sale." Walking
down the street with the fuzzies on leashes, we get all sorts of queries. Most
are close, like weasel or mink, though a few uncouth souls will shout "Hey is
that a rat on a leash?" and some are a bit further off, like opposum or skunk.
My favorite is when someone thought Wednesday, with her little silver mask,
was a baby raccoon. I'm not sure what he thought Roddenberry, our albino
5-year-old, was! Unfortunately this was a mean man down the block insisting
that raccoons spread rabies and could we get them away from the grass outside
his gate? We did, explaining as we picked them up and hurried by, that they
were ferrets and vaccinated besides. He didn't care to hear it. Sigh. Most
of the people we pass on the street while walking the fuzzies are a lot more
friendly and just melt at the sight of them :)

Off to class,
Geri
