[log in to unmask], 17 Mar 1995 14:30:38 -0500525_- I have adopted a ferret when she was four years old but her previous owner
never let her out of her cage, she was not treated real well, she had no
affection, he had no time to look after, play with her, remember feeding
her, cleaning up her litter and giving her water. I spent approximatelyt's a weasel", "I heard they are outlawed because they are
harmful to cattle" (sigh). Apparently, they hunt in packs here in
California, chasing down defenseless Bovine type thousands of times
their size (Yea, right).
Anyway, she had a clean bill of health. At one point, the
doctor said he found an enlarged Lympth node, but later [...]36_20Dec199416:11:

>is a bath o.k.?
There are several things that can cause loose stools in a new ferret.
1) The stress of traveling and an change in her enviorment. When this is the
case the stool should slowly look more firm each day (back to normal in a
week or so) and her appetite and energy level should be normal. Sometimes
stress diarrhea can go into bacterial or parasite overgrowths in the
intestional tract.
2) Change of diet can cause diarrhea. If you don't know what food she was on
before science diet [...]39_20Dec199422:52:

[log in to unmask], 21 Dec 1994 00:47:39 -0600559_- I have a suggestion for finding a missing ferret. Knock on all your
neighbors' doors. If you can take another ferret with you, since a lot
of people don't know what they are. Especially talk to kids. They're
always outside, and are a lot more likely to notice a strange animal
running around. It worked for me. When Puck got out once, the only
reason I found him is that a little girl remembered that her grandmother's
neighor found one. He was about 3 blocks away! I never would have thought
that he could go that far. I hope you [...]38_21Dec199400:47:

be human or not.
Cats are carnivorous and DO NOT thrive on vegetable diets.
Ferrets are the same. In the wild, polecats never eat vegetables of any
sort. Forcing them to do so in captivity will definitely endanger their
health. [...]37_21Dec199407:36:

[log in to unmask], 21 Dec 1994 07:40:25 -0500464_- To Texan pricing ferrets-
We paid $120 in Vermont for our firt ferret from a petstore. Our next two
have come from the Greater Chicago Ferret Association for considerably less.
Shelters are a great way to help poor ferrets who have been abandoned for
one reason or another. Why not try to find one in your area? Shelter
ferrets are just as much fun and just as healthy (or better) than one you'd
buy elsewhere.

Nikki is probably used to her Ferret Chow and nothing else. New foods
and/or snacks take time to introduce. You can try breaking the snacks into
very small pieces and sprinkling it over the chow in her food bowl. When
she goes to eat the food she is used to eating, she'll get a taste of the
chopped up treat. If she likes the taste she may respond when fed the treat
by hand. Don't fret, it takes time. [...]41_21Dec199407:47:
