In yesterday's FML, Monica Tittle complained about problems she was having
reading some issues of the FML with Eudora.

Several people commented, both on and off the list, about Eudora. Since
some of the comments were way off-topic I've decided to summarize them
here rather more or less as a compromise between posting all or none.

Sean Sawyer <[log in to unmask]> mentioned:
Eudora Light 3.1.3 for the Mac is excellent. I recommend getting a new
computer. The new iMac's look pretty exciting - maybe you should try one
of those. ;-)

We have Eudora 2.0 and have never had any problems with getting the FML.
Maybe in this case the older version is better than the newer one. We're
spending all our money on the ferrets instead of better e-mail programs!

And from Mary McCarty <[log in to unmask]>:
I am the other subscriber that has been having increasing problems with
Eudora and not being able to open certain FML's - # 2562 was the worst -
the only way I finally got it to work was to get it split into 3 different
sections. Then a friend copy and pasted it to me in another email and that
worked also.

Privately, I had several responses as well. One mentioned: ...
In my case, I use Eudora and love it but occassionally I get an FML issue
come through that won't open. No Biggie. I just go to my harddrive and
open my Eudora In Box there and read it in there. It is not as pretty but
it works.
I think this occurs because ocassionally the FML is too big for the size I
have set up for my inbox. ...
This could be the problem that is happening for these other people. It has
happened to me about 10 times in the last year. But the FML hardly crashes
my computer it just seizes up Eudora when I try to open it.

Someone else mentioned:
Eudora 3.0.5 freezes now and then on email. Upgrading to 4 solved all
that and I haven't had a freeze since.

One other reader mentioned that setting her subscription to MIME made it
much easier to reply to posts with Eudora, though she's never had a problem
anyhow, "probably because I use a mac".

Personally, since one of my duties is to manage email I regularly use
Eudora, Rice Mail, Outlook, Outlook Express, Exchange, Lotus Notes,
Netscape mail, Pegasus, mail on AOL and CompuServe and, most of all read
it right from our system spool with something called SPEDIT. I like that
last way the best. And hate the 3 Microsoft products the most. If anyone
wants to play a bit though, the Windows version of Pegasus is great, and
FREE! But individual preferences will certainly play a role.
