All the ferrets were checked by the vet today most appear healthy with a
few minor problems. All have fleas and ear mites and are being treated
for both conditions.

A few have more serious problems though. One is a 6 yr. old who either
has a large tumor or an enlarged kidney. He will be going into the office
for an ultrasound and other tests early next week. Laurie would really
hopes to get this poor guy fixed up because he has a life long cage mate
that will surely suffer a deep depression if she loses her friend on top
of everything else she has had to endure the last few months.

Two others are exhibiting hair loss that could be an effect of adrenal
problems. They are under observation at this time to monitor their
condition since stress can also cause similar symptoms. Blood tests and
other diagnostic techniques may need to be performed on these with possible
surgeries as well.

One has a badly prolapsed rectum that is being treated non surgically at
the moment to see if it will clear up. Surgery for this one hasn't been
ruled out either.

All will need distemper shots in a week or so once they have had time to
adjust to the new surroundings and change of food. (They have gone from
eating Diamond at the previous shelter to Totally Ferret at Laurie's)

As you can imagine the medical costs for all of this are going to be
staggering. In addition 26 are also in need of altering. Laurie has the
services of my dud stud so none of the jills are in immediate danger
however she would like to get them fixed as soon as funds are available.

Right now all monetary donations are being used to cover the serious
medical problems and any left over from that will be used for altering the
whole ferrets.

If you have thought about it in the past but never got around to it, now
would be a good time to send a small donation to either one of Laurie's
vets to help defray the expenses.
