First, thanks very much to everyone who wrote. I really appreciate the FML
folks' helpful attitude!
Two weeks ago, I asked about possible delayed responses to distemper
vaccines. A recently adopted ferret, which had not been well-cared for
prior to going to a shelter, developed diarrhea, rapid weight loss, and
hind limb weakness about ten days after his shots. His bloodwork showed
elevated liver enzymes and an unusual pattern of white blood cell counts.
Then his glucose level plummeted--the vet was surprised the ferret wasn't
having seizures. While this sounds similar to insulinoma, that isn't
completely clear. It could well be insulinoma plus something else. We
are watching and waiting, but I think the early concern about a potential
vaccine problem is unlikely. (The ferret's on prednisone and antibiotics,
and is gaining weight now, thank goodness.)
