Paco's Doctor called me last night at 11:30. Dr. Regan from High Park
Animal Hospital had stayed with him all evening by herself. She felt I
should come down to see him and she felt he was suffering.
Paco was given FerVacD for Distemper. Imeadatly he began turning red,
having diarrhea and going into a coma. He began to poop blood that
evening. Eventually he pooped out most of the lining and part of his
intestine. I know, I saw it.
When I arrived at the vet's, Paco was on a heating pad on the operating
table. The vet was gingerly stroking him and looked like she had been
crying. She said it was a long day and she wanted me to see for myself how
bad off he was before she could make the disicsion to let him go with good
conscience.
I spent some time with Paco, stroking him and telling him he was loved. I
don't think he herd me. He was in such a state of dumbness. He didn't
blink or move. He whimpered every so often and every time he did, it sent
knives through my heart.
Just after midnight, I gave the go ahead to let him cross the Rainbow
Bridge. I held his paw, and the Vet gave him some gas to put him under.
Then she gave him the needle and he slipped away.
This shouldn't have happened. No vaccine should be allowed on the market
that can do this to an animal. I am angry. Not at the vets, but at the
vaccine and the reaction. This should NOT have happened.
Good bye dear shelter baby. We love you...
