Hee!  I thought my Calliope was the only one who ever did that!  Anyhow,
about the search for a cat, I would advise finding a kitten.  I wouldn't
look for a mellow one, however.  If you get one that is 'mellow' you may
end up with one that is also timid, and afraid of the fuzzies.  And who
ever saw a mellow ferret, anyhow??  I would look for one that isn't very
aggressive but has some spirit and be sure to keep his claws clipped.
Also, it's not good for a cat to be spayed or neutered young.  I would wait
until they are at least 7 months old.  I don't think sex matters that much,
but I have found that males stay more playful into adulthood.  That's not
scientific or anything, just personal observation.  Good luck!
