I am both excited and sad to tell you that I have a new ferret today! I
went to a local pet store and they had just gotten in a ferret that someone
had apparently abandoned. A man who found him under his house took him in
to try to save him as he had had him for 2 days trying to get him to eat.
He is very thin and weak, and the pet store couldn't get him to eat
anything. So I happily told them I would take him and nurse him back to
health. Obviously, the excited part is because I have a new friend, and
the sad part is because of how I got him.
I am going to take him to a vet tomorrow. If anyone has any thoughts as to
how I can help him, let me know. He has eaten several raisins, some
Wheaties (Yes, I know these are not the kinds of things that ferrets should
eat all the time, but I am just trying to get some kind of food in his
system), and some salmon oil. And he is pretty active for all he's been
through. I have read in some of your posts that duck soup is good when they
are sick. What is that? Is it literally a soup made out of duck? And
where can I get some?
I'd also like to hear any suggestions for a name for him...something rather
unusual. My other ferret is named Jasper. Maybe something with a
survivor-related meaning.
Thanks!
