Hey, Mel, trying to improve the world STILL works, though the older people
get the more attention has to be paid to wording since the image of a
committed child carries a certain impact of its own. Remember Margaret
Mead's observation: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed individuals can change the world. Indeed it's the only thing
that ever has.".

Ferret people have spurred a LOT of wonderful changes in the last 10 to 12
years: gotten needed testing to have a USDA approved rabies vaccine, had
large amounts of medical research done to improve veterinary care for
ferrets, communicated observations which led to improved medical and home
care for ferrets, gotten some dietary work done, had ferrets legalized in
several states and many communities, shown that ferrets don't pose a rabies
risk, gotten changes in the Compendium of Animal Rabies Control, started
shelters since there had been no options for ferrets, introduced products
to improve the qualities of ferrets' and their people's lives, etc. We are
very good as a group at improving things; it's just that some tasks are
much rougher than others.
