First I want to thank every one that replayed to my initial posting. I
tried to answer each one individually, but in case I missed you - Thank You.
I received some baffling news. The vet said that the sugar was OK. The lab
reported it to be 111. If that is right, Thank God. I just cannot see how
there could be that much difference in the blood test. If the difference
always happen that way, why even run an in house test.
Several people have told me to go with the in house results because blood
glucose is unsteady when it sits around. I asked the vet about it and he
said that they spin the blood and call the lab right away. He said not to
believe everything I see on the Internet, which I know is true, but when
several people say the same thing to you, I believe that you go with the
masses.
Would you still treat her for insulinoma? I am definitely not convinced
she doesn't have it. He said that he would have treated her by diet alone
at first. He stated that his two ferrets that had insulinoma that he
treated with diet for alone for 2 years.
I wish there was away that I could test her sugar myself. I am diabetic so
I have a machine to test my blood sugar daily.
Do you think I should get a second opinion. I have Not noticed any weakness
in her hind end and the only slobbering I have noticed is right after they
put her to sleep for the blood test and they gave her some glucose. What I
have noticed is that she tires out much more easily and sooner and that she
is sleeping so hard that she doesn't even hear me call her name. This
concerns me because she had always been a very alert ferret. Their cage is
in the kitchen and almost every time I would go in there she would wake up
and greet me. After calling her name several times and playing with the
cage door lock, I still have to go in the bottom door, pull the blanket that
she is sleeping on over to the door in order to pick her up. She isn't in a
stoopper when she wakes up, but she isn't her usual vibrant self.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
