I want to thank Joe W. for privately pointing out to me that ferrets are
know legally sold in parts of Kentucky. When I bought my first ferret 6
years ago, it was illegal to sell ferrets in the city of Louisville. I'm
not sure of the present legality of selling in Louisville.
Hillary also wants to know more about Kentucky ferret laws. I don't want
to give out any wrong info here, so I'm going to suggest you talk to the
vets at Shively Animal Clinic on Dixie Hwy. in Louisville. The last I
heard, there was an annual city fee of $75 per ferret and a state fee of
$50 per ferret every 3 years. If anyone has currant info on this, PLEASE
LET ME KNOW. Every time I call KY Fish and Wildlife, I get a different
story.
It is my impression that Louisville considers ferrets as exotics (imagine
that) so all the laws pertaining to taking them out in public are the same
as reptiles and the sort. That is why you can't have one on a leash in the
city. You must have them caged in public at all times.
I hope this post makes sense. It's very late. Let me know if I can
clarify anything.
Britta
