I couldn't believe my ears when an animal control officer for the City of
Las Vegas told me that ferret owners are required to have a wild animal
permit for their ferrets! Come on, ferrets aren't wild. So whats the deal?
The Division on Wildlife here in Nevada gave me a list of animals that you
do not need a special permit to own and the European ferret was on that
list. But then animal control faxed me a section of our law that reads:
Wild Animal. "Wild animal" means any animal found naturally in the wild
state regardless of whether such an animal is indigenous to the state or
whether such animal was raised in captivity.

It is my understanding that ferrets were domesticated before cats but you
don't need a wild animal permit to own a cat! Can any one shed light on
this situation? What should I do next?
