Since I house rabbits, rodents & ferrets in the same building/shelter I've
been concerned that an accident could happen between the ferrets and other
critters. I'm afraid that last week it happened. :-( A ferret climbed
over an "unclimbable" wall from his exercise area into an area where two
rabbits were exercising. There was this little 2 3/4 # holland lop who was
minding her own business when the ferret dropped down close to her. Before
I could even blink, the rabbit had the ferret in her teeth, using her
powerful hind legs to try to destroy the ferret. They were about equal in
weight, but the ferret didn't stand a chance. :-( I rushed him to the vet
where his wounds were treated. The rabbit didn't have a mark on her. This
was a 7 1/2 year old rabbit with a heart murmur.

It's my understanding that ferrets have been used to flush rabbits from
their burrows, not to "hunt" them.
