Hi,
First I'd like to thank everyone again who replied to my question about NJ
Vets.  I decided on a local vet who had done surgeries on 3 of my ferrets in
the past.  This is a sad story, but I was hoping for some input from others
(that's why I posted it), so please do not read on if you don't want to.
 
Last Friday, the 20th, I took Lucy to the vet because she had a swollen
vulva for 1 week.  Lucy was 6 years old.  The Dr. scheduled her for surgery
on Monday the 23rd.  He removed a left adrenal tumor but said it looked like
it had spread to her liver.  He said Lucy recovered nicely from surgery and
should be able to go home the next day at 10am.  On that next day I received
a call from the vet saying he was sorry but Lucy had passed on at 7:30 that
morning.  He said she had been up and eating and doing fine but must have
had a blood clot.  She went into cardiac arrest.
 
I went to see Lucy after that to say good-bye.  She looked peaceful but
there was allot of bruise like hemorrhaging (under the skin) around her
abdomen where the stitches were.I had never seen this with a surgery before.
Has anyone else seen this or know why it happened?  Lucy was healthy except
for the adrenal tumor.  I didn't expect her to die from the surgery.  Has
this happened to anyone else before?
 
I suppose I feel guilty for taking Lucy in for surgery even though I knew
she needed it.  I feel as if it is my fault.  But the abdomen bothers me
and I was hoping to here that this is a common thing.
